one more funny one on reservations... (forward)

This is an article from Business World and again, you may find it restricted in its scope by not including other issues but thats how they chose to put it.

For those of you who have still not come across this yet ...
From Business World
Diary of a Non-Obc Man
An excerpt from Emcee's diary exactly 50 years from now

Ahmedabad, 30 April 2056: I attended the bash at the IIM-OBC Alumni Association to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the reservation of seats for OBCs (Other Backward Castes) in IIMs. Since I'm not an OBC, I was not supposed to attend, but at present, we MBFCs (Moderately Backward Forward Castes) together with the Non-Scheduled Tribes have a political alliance with the OBCs. We sipped champagne and talked about how so many of us had progressed from reserved seats in the IIMs to reserved jobs to reserved promotions. Unfortunately, the party broke up when a Non-scheduled Tribes faculty member objected to the OBCs dancing with all the pretty girls ? he wanted equal opportunities for every caste at each dance. I pointed out that the Non-scheduled Tribes had exceeded the quota of champagne reserved for them. The party ended in a pitched caste battle.
-----

1) May 2056: Today, I became president of the IIM Board of Directors. Under the present rotating presidency system, a member of each caste is made the president by turn. When it was the turn of the MBFCs for president, they had to choose me because
I'm the only MBFC on the campus. True, I'm only the campus dhobi, but then every caste must be given an equal opportunity. All those centuries of oppression by the OSBFCs (Only Slightly Backward Forward Castes) and the OFCs (Other Forward Castes) must be rectified. I hope to restore the high standards at IIM ? I overheard some foreigners calling it the Indian Institute of Morons, the other day.
----

2) May 2056: They've announced the cricket team for the series against Australia. I was overjoyed when they chose an MBFC man as captain. But my hopes were dashed when I realised he was a Most Backward Forward Caste and not a Moderately Backward Forward Caste. The selection committee lamented that it was gross discrimination that no member from the Jarowa tribe (the Stone Age tribe in the Andamans) had ever found a place in the Indian cricket team. A squad has since been dispatched to the Andamans to capture a Jarowa tribal to play in the national team. I hope he will improve their performance ? they had an innings defeat against the Maldives recently. I would have played myself except for the fact that I lost a leg some years ago when I was in hospital with a toothache and a doctor recruited through the Unscheduled Caste quota extracted my leg instead of my tooth.

3) May 2056: There are too many NFCs (Neo-Forward castes) in the IT business. Under the terms of the Business Reservation Act, their firms will now be taken over by the other castes. I hope they will be able to restore the Indian IT industry back to its former glory. For some unfathomable reason, it has gone down the drain after job reservations were implemented. I went for a movie featuring star actor Mungeri Ram. He may lack teeth, be four-feet-three and have hair growing out of his nose, but this year it's the turn of the EBC-RYs (Extremely Backward Caste-Rural Yokels) to be stars and Mungeri Ram is the best of the lot. I wonder why foreign movies have become so popular.
----

4) May 2056: A truly great day. We now have an OFBMBC (Other Forward But Moderately Backward Caste) general as the Head of the Armed Forces. I hope he'll be able to win back the territory we lost ever since reservations were implemented in the Army. Since then, the north has been taken by Pakistan, the North-east by China, the east by Bangladesh and the south by Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Only last winter, we lost the war against Bhutan and free India is now limited to the western coastal states. But I'm sure the OFBMBC general will turn the tide.
----

5) May 2056: My wife and I have been blessed with a bonny daughter. Since my wife's an SBBNSBC (Slightly Backward But Not So Backward Caste), my daughter will be an MBFC-SBBNSBC. I must lobby for reservation for her caste. She's the only member and I'm sure she has a great future.

Reservations - on the lighter side...

a forward - too good...
I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this. Let's start the reservation with our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for Muslims. 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by an OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century.
We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal.
Also we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters.
There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and politicians (that can really help the country…)
Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country…)
Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA forward...
Let's show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country. Let's be proud of being an INDIAN...
May the good breed of politicians like ARJUN SINGH long live...

Good times at home…

What could be better than mom’s love… food cooked by mom has a taste different … and I am enjoying it to full extent … as mom is here for a couple of weeks.

And what more you can think when there is a place where in you eat 10 different types of veg/ curry… it’ll taste same … while my mom can make 10 different varieties of just potatoes – all tasting different…

a post long due...

Reservations … me too…

I need reservations for entry in premier schools / govt. occupation… my class – general middle class …

The concept of reservation was introduced to uplift the socially and educationally backward citizens of India so that the overall quality of living of discriminated society improves.

The major issues I see if this happens…

1) the discrimination against the backward class will rise… it’ll be general vs others … general seats are fully paid too … which will deepen the divide… (free seat wala vs. paid seat wala)
2) more and more general category people will list themselves into OBC category – resulting in filling up of pockets of local administration (channel for proving your category as OBC is through administration/DM/Collectors office) – a step to degradation of civilization per say…
3) the overall performance of the institutes will degrade… the percentage of people from backward community performing good (if not better) is very low … resulting in lack of conformance from the recruiters … which means that though there will be requirements for the jobs… there will be scarcity of jobs (IRONY!)
4) once such condition is given a go ahead more and more such conditions would be forced … the attitude of getting things done (rather getting away with work) using mob mentality will be high … the attitude towards work would change to attitude towards no work with full pay and fun… closing on doomsday!!!
5) Private colleges with no quality – full of gyan and frolics ... will result … those who have money might survive – others perish…

I am not going to comment more as a lot has been said in many other blogs…

Sardar Sarovar – Narmada Bachao …

The politics and media are making a mess out of nothing… I am not too sure of what exactly the issue is until I saw a documented effort by one of these media only… (for some reason those few minutes did make some sense) … however, things seems to taking a different turns of all the things… from my point of view… there should be some powers given to president (of India) to intervene and take action against activities (or rather non-activities that should have been done)… I hope the issue get resolved… as the issue is of chicken & egg… people (poor people) vs. countries growth (& politicians too)…

Mandir – Majzid bombing

I am Hindu (though I believe in liberal atheism) and I am forced to think that way… not to create an argument or offence to fellow Muslims… but few things trigger my attention related to recent bombings – one in varanasi and other in delhi

In Varanasi – bomb blasted on Sankat Mochan temple on Tuesday evening – Tuesday is the day for hanuman (aka Sankat Mochan) and evening is when most of the Hindus visit this temple. From Hindu mythology – this temple has a lot of significance… and the timing of the blast had a major impact… moreover the intensity of the blast was huge…

Now, in Delhi at Jama Masjid, the blast happened post prayers … when the population in side the mosque was thin and the blast was very small (the bomb was very small) – having very little impact… though Jama Masjid is of equal importance as of SM Mandir, I felt it was just to show off and drag the focal point to different direction…

I don’t know why but I have this weird feeling that the Delhi bombing was not to create terror but to deviate the attention of forces or trigger another communal violence backed by political parties for there own benefits…

I love DD…

Well the idiot box is going more and more idiot… I used to see surf thru news channels more often than the Star (or Sony /Zee) soap operas… however, lately I have observed most of these news channels are giving run for money to the gossip channels (entertainment channels) like MTV or Channel V … the kind of gossip that can leave you no where…

One day kaif plays well so the channels take pains to cover their immediate family… next to immediate family… their neighbors … and the next day kaif got out on duck the blame game starts again… why kaif and why not ganguly … similarly with sachin, sehwag, pathan, and many others … no offence meant to the respective players, though it’s really funny how the news/ media channels are trying to highlight things and make a mountain over a mole hill… and aggravating the same issue by repeating every 15 mins like nothing else is happening in the world… Another cricket example is of Dhoni… and boy his barber must be on high!

The most recent highlight of the gossip box is that of wardrobe malfunction at LFW … an accident … I am sure the two models were more victimized because of media (rather nuisance of it) … than the accident itself… I agree that such accidents shouldn’t happen but why create havoc out of it… there are more important and priority issues on the table to look into… however, media was busy in making the entire expose public (in all the possible directions/ angles) more than the MMS clip might have circulated …

Another show which takes the icing of the cake is crime shows… (almost every news channel has it by some name)… sometime I really wonder if these crime happened or have been created… they look more dramatized than incidental… and poor people (victims) who are anyway in a state of shock have to play the hero of the show!!! The bigger Qs is, for whom are these crime shows? … I don’t think these are viewed by the respective agencies that are targeted to (say political arena/ police/ NGOs …)

How come I don’t see shows on how a particular NGO is helping the development / rehabilitation work …???

Now, if I want to see the news, I watch our old (golden) DD News… thankfully they haven’t changed much … and they still give you NEWS …

...

It has been quite a while that I had nothing to write… or even if I had… I had no mood to pen down… in fact even now I don’t have anything to say … the mood is acrimonious… triggered by just another drop leading to bursting of bubble … last few weeks the topic of discussion has been around work life balance… work – pay rationalization … quality of work – brand correlation … growth opportunities & job switches… personal commitments … family vs. love life… and cribbing about any thing under the sun… e.g. roads (or lack of it)… traffic… food… common sense (which increasingly becoming rare commodity among people, especially folks who claim to be bonds)… and MONEY!

Oh lord… I know happiness is now just a concept … give me at least comfort factors…
PS: some folks might ask me do 'Art of living' ... well i know about it... but i think i have better things in life to do... :D
