Tipping point …
Note: thinking aloud!
Last weekend, my bro told me that he wants to quit his new job (just 6 months old) … and start his own at home itself. At first I was little startled … knowing that he just came out of an environment saying its enough for him to beat the conflict of thoughts between dad and uncle and would like to get away from the mud pond.
So, first I asked … what's the issue … so there were two … primarily, office front … at office, he’s not able to mix up with the rest of the team … why … maturity of the team is fairly fresh and uni-directional (typical of fresh engg grads) … while he thinks on a bigger picture, the team looks into just the task at hand and move on … let the bugs roll in and then things would be sorted out … bro is for prevention than cure mode … further, bro is also little more idealist in terms of coding (read standards) … those who code would understand this … those who don’t … it’s like writing a book and consistency in writing style … it was again conflict of thought process … in addition, his project was in the phase of conceptualization – the boss (ideator ) was himself not sure what he’s really looking for … everyday he comes and thinks of some changes and asks the team to get those changes in no time … (a little too much to ask for …) … but then he’s paying for your execution and not your thoughts … you think over it and try to reason out… that’s good .. But then he needs to see whether his thoughts are aligned or not … for that he would like to see the results … I would consider very typical of an entrepreneur with some lads at hands … bro tells me that he wanted to raise some potential issues for a prototype which he then didn’t listen to and now he wants them clean up the garbage and damage others have done by not following … like y’day … (I don’t blame the boss)…
OKAY! … so what more …, the home is 2 hours one way from office (and changing 2 busses in between) and he can’t live alone … (won’t be able to manage himself) … physical exertion is effecting now. Agreed … what more …
“I want to go home and start my own” … hmm… so that’s what’s bothering so far … I know bro is little emotional from the family side … but I wasn’t very convinced with his real thought process … so I asked him … before taking any jump make sure you have identified a solid landing ground… basically, know what you are getting into before jumping in the cloud and landing nowhere … in addition … (typical of people like me – MBAs) … I asked him to draw a rough business plan …
What he told me in an un-organized way … was just a thought on napkin paper … may be little more than that … let’s say multiple papers … but still missed out essential elements; what I could know is what he wants to do … how was very vague … also, what are his potential expenses … and how he plans to manage them … I asked him to take some time to think over them … he said he needs time to draw those stuff … and with office he’s not able to do that …
So the big question is … “Is quitting job and then sit and think how you want to go ahead with the idea is good idea?!” … What’s the tipping point?

Lessons from UP-Bihar
Note: Controversial, Political, Opinioned …
Last decade saw 2 major political scenarios … especially in states (UP and Bihar) which were known for their political instability… or better known as ‘mili-juli sarkar’ … (aka let’s feast together) …
A few years ago, BSP won the state elections with clear majority of more than 50% and now Bihar has seen much more distinct results with close to 80% majority … this clearly shows the power of voting and people at large. Especially, when the EC had enforced full control over the polling and security… these results are of very high importance and significance.
What happens next! … is the best question … the majority party is now the unopposed ‘boss’ of the region … they can and will do all that is needed to fill their pockets and shut up the raising voices … they dictate over the administrative setup and have “monopoly” over all the projects … UP has already seen many of these examples – like statues, re-doing of parks, … capital city wasting entire state electricity while the rest of the state is plunge into darkness …
I am not sure why, but I have a feeling that things would repeat in Bihar too … may be much more under the carpet and having much heavier impact (financially!) …
