What a loss…

Aah!!! World Cup – 2007 … I am sure it must have given jitters to whole lot of people … a terrible loss… cricket … naah… (It’s not even worth talking about) … I am concerned about huge amount of money that went into WC as so call “religious” campaign … companies like nike, sahara, LG, tata sky … (to name a few) … who made a gamble over our over hyped Indian cricket team … they knew India won’t win the WC… but super 8 was no where gone … and the chances of being in final 4 was calculated … some news channel did an estimate of something like 400 C!!! Whoa … that’s a magnanimous amount … and why forget bookies … poor folks … I can’t even think of the amount …

What a financial loss…

Movies I saw last month…

A couple of new and a not-so-old one …

Bas Ek Pal …
This was a lovely movie with very beautiful songs … nicely and simple putting the complexities of relationships … the best part was when you don’t feel the complexities till the middle of the movie … the start is so simple that it could happen to you too …

Water …
AARRRGGGH…. This movie is too slow for me to sit … agree that the direction for the topic was good … caste played their role well … but then it was too slow… further I really do not appreciate this topic at this juncture … agree it was a topic of pre-independence, it has very little relevance in today’s scenario. A widow home system which has been shown in the movie is the thing of past and reflects a black mark on our society and culture … something I personally would not like to bring upon especially at an international platform of Oscars … had it been still prevalent in today (probable exception in extreme rural India) – this could have been a good piece. But still, this needed a bit more pace!

Traffic Signal …
Not to my expectation … coming from MB – the punch was missing … his earlier movies hit the audience hard… this one was loose… it was like just an incident … it happened and over …

Though I never used to give any beggar anything … now it’s definite no-no … even if the person is actually needy …

Holi – Day…

This weekend it was Holithe festival of colors and it’s been ages I played holi. Due to some reasons or the other, holi always eluded away from me. Last I remember was way back in 1992 or 93… something like that… it used to be pure fun… it was colors only… in the mohalla, I remember we used to have a big tub like place where we used to mix colors and use it as our storage tank… senior members did with gulal and mid age and us kids with the storage tank… for any mischief we were put into that storage tank … and then with the gang of friends going around (actually walking) through the city and neighborhood, visiting different mohallas and other friends … in the evening dress up new and start visiting friends home for home made goodies (gujhiya, mathari, besan laddoos,...) … from one place to another and one house to another … the growing the gang … and ending up at a local holi-milan samaroh, where some band party /orchestra would be singing and trying to entertain the people…

Things started to change when people started looking forward to what is called ‘pakka rang’ – strong color which lasts longer … and it went on to things beyond colors like varnish and paints … and now to mud to anything possible! (Yuck!)

This holi too was just another holiday for me (though it didn’t make any difference being on weekend) … with most of the friends spread across the globe – the get together doesn’t happen … and with busy and fast nuclear families … the fun is also lost … now its just lets stay over home yaar … why waste so much of energy in it…
