Diwali in 2k8
I might sound very negetive, but, it wouldn’t be exaggerating to say that this was probably gloomiest Diwali ever. Indian financial market crashing down and recession looming over the global economics has created negative vibes all across.
With the ease and flexibility to invest (direct/ indirect) in the equity market, small investors (as small as 500/ month), took the plunge and today are in jitters – don’t even know what to do … having prices soaring high and negligible savings, global uncertainty adding to woes, expenses had to cut this Diwali.
This Diwali, when I was home, I really missed the old days … there was no good lighting (on the streets and on houses), there was lack of enthusiasm on faces, everyone I saw was shopping for necessity (or for sake of ritual), the speakers were shouting only ads, crackers were probably the worst affected … it was until dusk of Diwali day when I really heard some noise of bursting crackers across the city. City news was filled with reports of synthetic khoya (solid milk base for sweets) – reducing the crowd at sweet shops too …
One could see the fear of uncertainty on everyone’s face …

Hey Khetan. I like your take on last year's Diwali. Would like to know how you feel about this coming Diwali (09)?
