Temporary benefit or Permanent Damage

The demonetization of high value currency notes has created a huge uproar - both in favour and against the call. Though the initial call was to catch hold of black money (which is within India), there were some additional agenda such as fake currency, etc.

I don't have any stats to prove anything .. and mostly what I see and hear, things seems little odd and don't add up.

At the micro level, there is still chaos... mid-small enterprise and people who's genuine business was running on cash transaction (due to multiple low value activities) ... are facing the heat most... Think of construction, marriage, transportation, daily wage labourers, etc. even if they had an account, they may not have 2000 rupees in their account. And let's assume they had enough to withdraw, the ATMs (which are running dry) provide on Rs 2000 max (that too one note of Rs 2000) ... which is nearly impossible for the people to break .... For them, forget about doing business, they are not able to even fulfil their basic needs (read food). I am hoping that Jan onwards the constraints would be reduced so that impact is bearable. If not, I have issues in the modalities of implementation.

The cashless / digitization (digital money) is still long way to go. Most of the urban class is able to manage, but, it's having heavy impact on the local sabjiwala and chai-wala ... same logic as above.

On a Macro level also, we are talking about few major issues - black (hoarding of currency, which is on the rise right now) ... fake currency - relief for few months perhaps ... terrorism / trafficking / ... any major transaction which was based on cash - again temporary slow down perhaps ... my belief is that, these activities would regain the momentum once the situation is normalized or the cash flow is normalized. If it doesn't, the majority of the public (who is facing he maximum heat) will certainly lose the patience.

Changing rules and norms (a bit too many and too frequent) is adding to the chaos...

Curbing or limiting the amount of withdrawals or keeping at home (primarily used as safety net) will not go down very easily with public at large. Today, cashlessness has gone to the levels where Banks and ATMs are cashless (which is certainly not good for the common man).

There is lot more to do before we go for a complete cashless (or rather digital economy), curbing large cash transaction or black money transaction ... there is lot more digitization is required. Further, reforms are required on mitigating some of the issues with the needs of the common man because of which people actually go for corruption ... (like Education, healthcare, taxation, etc )

Hoping that the hyped benefits with ref to reduced activities related to terrorism and trafficking ... and many others... is a lasting one .. (alas!) and we have a normalized cash and digitized transaction too... (which also seems a mirage in a desert right now)

Indian Origin CEOs for Global MNCs

Today another person of Indian Origin (I would call them that only) .. became CEO of Google. Earlier few others made some marks ... MS, Pepsi, ....

I don't see a reason for gung-ho about it ... Well, to begin with, they have been there since long ... they have invested their time and energy to the organization ... and they have been given the responsibility based on merit.

Times have changed, we have more start-ups having people with Indian Origin as CEOs ... If I look into just last 10 years, more than half of the creamy layer of engineers passing from IITs, NITs and other good colleges are anyway pursuing higher education in US ... also, the mind set across the organizations are changing ... and is no longer biased (to the extremes) towards other societies ... and hence the result.

Another aspect, why I am not very gung-ho about it is that it's not going to make any impact on Indian engineers / talent ... nor to India (as a country) ... and certainly not me! :)

Un-parliamentary affairs

The monsoon session of the Parliament (Modi Gov) is about to end ... and since the day0, there has been a dead lock to make the parliament practically non-functioning. And this is not new. Even when Cong / UPA was in power, BJP / NDA wouldn't let the parliament function. The so called Q&A is now just a thing that happened.

My concern is with current opposition is that, you can select a topic on which you don't want to discuss in parliament ... but making it completely non-functional is bizarre... and on top of that, you do dharna when you are suspended!

And to Modi Gov, when you have such a minority opposition, why is that you are not able to make the session a working one??? Do you really need a opposition's presence to pass the bills / amendments!

To Modi Gov ... you rose like a lion ... don't hide like a jackal ...

Capital Punishment ... should we?

Controversial and Personal Opinion

Every time we see a flash news on capital punishment on anyone, especially, if the community of the person is not hindu! ... there is always a hue and cry... Be it case of Kasab, or Azmal or Yakub.

Why haven't seen this outcry when a Hindu is being punished ... that actually doesn't even hit the newspapers ... last stats I read somewhere that since independence, only 8% of the cap punishment were to the muslim community.. why this outcry that because of being muslim the said person was targeted !!

I sincerely believe that people sitting in the courts as judges are no fools by any means... and they do go through the evidences and case details thoroughly and both sides have lawyers to support too... and if the court of law decides, it's certainly not an emotional decision.

I also believe media is making a mountain of a what is not even a molehill but continuously showing one side of the story ...

A tale of 2 prez

I was just reading today's news headlines about PP (successor of APJ-AK) ...

It shows how contrasting people can be ... On one hand, there is one Prez, who comes in a suitcase and leaves in that ... lives in the most prestigious address, but sleeps on floor... post his office goes back to college to teach (he went to Anna Univ) and spends most of his time in constructive work in the interest of nation.

On the other hand, the lady whose appointment it self was a question, comes and returns with allegedly taking away more than half of antiquities of the same address... to add to fury, misuses powers during her position to her personal benefits... and on top of that, now wishes to bend / change the law to accommodate her travel expenses (though she no longer is part of the office!!)

My personal opinion - the lady should be charged with criminal offense - from taking up (stealing) things from the R.B., misusing power and govt during and post her office period. Such people bring so much shame to the nation ...

The legacy to continue...

Disclaimer - Personal opinion only ...

... just the last elections, we were thinking on who would continue the "Nehru-Gandhi" political legacy, given Sonia is aging and ...our Rahul is still "Baba" and is still hasn't shown any sign of marriage and so no off springs to continue ...

BUT, here comes the flag bearer ... Rehan (son of Priyanka and Rob' Vadra) just visited and spent a night in Amethi ... of course, our omnipresent media has made sure that it is politicized.

So the legacy would continue.... "Nehru-Gandhi-Vadra" .... Congress to rejoice!!

The year gone by ...

A lot has happened since I posted last (almost 2.5 years ago) ...

From extreme case of job change desperation, to wishing being single, to having a vacation, to having issues with life from all directions - be it work or home - be it wife ... be it parents ... be it siblings ..., to facing rejections at interviews, to attending family functions and taking responsibilities ... to having a feeling of going to be dad! ... and then being a dad (of a beautiful daughter) ... to getting recognized at the work ... Q4, 2014 has seen most of the positive changes I can imagine.

With a hope things would be good and better in 2015, a lot is at stake!

PS: one of the agenda for 2015 is to re-start the blog!!
