Trip to Dilli Haat …

Thanks to an old friend on mine RG, who was in town for the day, insisted on me seeing her all time favorite Dilli Haat. She knew that I’ll love the place … and she was absolutely right …

Though, by the time I reached to meet her at Dilli Haat, it was fairly late and was just before the closing time, I managed to get a good glimpse of what the ‘Haat’ is all about. In a few words – it is a place to be visited and experienced … especially for those who like explore the Indian culture and spirits … here, almost every month there is a fest – specific to the handicrafts and art/artifacts across the India. It was AadiShilp Mela this weekend (actually the month) … Apart from the fest, there are many fixed stalls from each of the states – for their state specific traditional / cultural display and very specific food for your taste buds … (this is the first time I really enjoyed Kashmiri food) … I also bought a nice stole (woolen) from a Himanchal Pradesh's stall for the winters …

In two hours, I felt so Indian … and felt really proud of being in India – which is so rich in its traditional culture – so simple and inexpensive and useful in daily life … from daily necessities to elements of decorative …

I think this is one place in Delhi, I’ll be visiting very often … and with more time in hand …

PS: You would love to buy a lot of stuff and but no cards … only cash …

Comments:
There is a similar place in Bhopal called "Haat Bazaar" - it is a center of folk activity and trade.

There is a 4-5 day festival every season, and the bazaar keeps running all the time, the shops changing depending on the 'flavour of the season'.

Its not just out of some idiosyncrasy that I love Bhopal - that city can give one an amazing lifestyle ... it pains when one cannot manage to be there for life :-(

I too loved this place when I visited it 2 years back. And yes, it's difficult to resist buying something for each shop - but they are over-priced don't you think?

As I was a student surviving on a bank loan, I did not get a chance to splurge there. Waiting for next time.
